This year, just like in the Ghetto Boys song, Halloween fell on a weekend. Being in the mood for a three day weekend, I took Halloween off and went & checked out this place called @theholly_wine for the Birdy’s bagel pop-up.
@caring_1999 was performing & provided ambience while a mystery artist was spotted doing a live virtual build in Minecraft. Rumor has it this mystery artist was a Yoshitomo Nara character brought to life by the spirit of Halloween, but we’ll never know. Reportage was covered by @fiftyfiveonepointfour.
As for the bagels and coffee, they were great. We had the Frankenbagel & the Trick or Treat. I had a cold brew & my wife had the drip.
After the first round of Hollyweening, we retreated back home to pass out candy. We were visited by Sandlot baseball star Benny Rodriguez & Lucha Libre’s El Grande Americano. Benny came for the candy while El Grande saw my Marketplace ad for a free exercise bike.
After eating more candy than we gave out, we were back at the Holly. Here I had a delightful conversation with Batman. He asked who my favorite Batman was. I replied with what I thought was the only correct answer: Michael Keaton. Then he asked, “What about the animated Batman from the TV series?” I honestly never considered that to be an option, even though I now believe it should be.
Other honorable outside mentions would be this Australian man wearing a Charlotte Checkers hockey T-shirt from their 93-94 season. This was peak Checkers era. You were guaranteed 3+ brutal fights & there was free Surge soda.
Inside was a gathering of sights & sounds. The DJ had the party going but swears “it’s not what it looks like.” Steve Jobs resurrected himself from the dead to show me the new iPhone 20 & Prince Charming offered me a glass of sparkling apple cider, knowing I’ve been Vermont sober for almost five years.
Back outside was a dude dressed as a dude, disguised as another dude, accompanied by his lovely wife. Local socialite @amariswerner was spotted just before being enclosed in an invisible prison by a group of mimes.
As we parted ways with friends, we ran into the Cumbia Kings of Fort Worth, @luna9o9 and @onirico0000, before heading to DNO.
